Useful Apps for Motorcycle Travel

A look into the apps I use to keep track of my long term travels
Picture
All of these apps are free and on iOS. I use them the most in my day to day life on the road and they’re in no particular order.

• Google Maps - the most up to date satellite GPS with options to avoid tolls and interstates. Fairly reliable with few crashes but without many bells and whistles offered in other apps.

• HERE WeGo - I expressly keep this app because of the entire country downloadable maps. Their offline use is invaluable when you didn’t prepare for no reception. Fairly large memory required.

• Expenses OK - This is a great app for keeping track of expenses. You can customize your categories, see pie charts by day, month, year and backup to iCloud.

• Fuelly GasTracker - The best gas tracker I’ve ever used.! You can also keep track of maintenance logs, see your average MPG, how many gallons you’ve tracked, keep notes and remind you on each of your motorcycles.

• The Weather Channel - Admittedly not the best app and fails in low reception areas but has the most area covered in the US from my experience.

• Weather Underground - Works well with low reception and has nifty radar options to see things like temperature, cloud heights, infared, etc. I always check both apps to be the best assured.

• Google Drive - My favorite option for Google Drive is to make maps on a computer which can be viewable on Drive. There’s also the option to store files.

• Google Sheets - Great for organizing information on a spreadsheet.

• Google Photos(not pictured) - Backup photos over WiFi and cellular so you’re always prepared for that lost or damaged phone.

• Pic Stitch - Simple app to make collages of your motorcycle and other pretty stuff.

• PhotoShop Mix - My favorite photo altering app that can overlap photos, cutout images, and adjust settings. This is how I overlap my travel maps.

• PicsArt - Another great photo editing app that allows drawing, photo combining, make collages and add effects.

• Photos - Simple and quick to use for cropping and adding text. A loved feature of mine is the “favorite” option. Makes finding the best photos easy.

• Convert Units - Useful when you need to convert gallons, lengths, weights, etc for when you’re in another country or don’t know how many ounces are in a cup.

• Currency - Again, used for traveling other countries like Canada. It stays up to date with current rates.

• Notes - Invaluable for writing about adventures or making lists of things to do.

• My Altitude - Just a quirky little thing to tell you how high above sea level you are. I find it valuable to figure out how cold the nights will be.

• PayPal - You never know when you’ll need friends and family to help you out in an emergency. It’s easy to use and quick to transfer money.

• iBooks - Simple and very well used on my phone. I read a lot of books in my downtime.

• Book Writer One - This is what I use to make my books. It allows formatting to add text and photos using different fonts and changeable sizes.

• Weebly - What I used to make this article and maintain my website. Personal use.

• Facebook - Another personal use app. Handy for getting help on camping spots, keeping up with friends, and sharing your adventures.

• Messenger - Well, ya gotta have it to talk privately.

• Gmail - Can connect many emails at once so you can keep up with work or whatever you get emails for.

• Camera - Self explanatory

Honorable mentions I don’t have much experience with:

• Scenic

• inRoute

• HereGPS

• SkyView
